Electricity can be considered to be an organised flow of electrons from atom to atom in a conductor.

Electricity is a property of electrons and protons that cause attractive and repulsive forces between them. Electricity is used as a source of energy and has 3 possible effects:

  1. It causes conductors to get hot-for example, the filament in a lamp gets white hot.
  2. It causes magnetism-this is how motors, solenoids and relays work.
  3. It causes chemical change-for example, the electrolyte in a battery changing from sulphuric acid (battery charged) to water (battery discharged).
