:

Sulphuric acid is a highly corrosive strong mineral acid with the molecular formula H2SO4. It is a pungent, colourless to slightly yellow viscous liquid which is soluble in water at all concentrations.

It can cause chemical burns via hydrolysis when in contact with skin. When it comes into contact with the eyes it can cause permanent blindness as it burns the cornea.  Safety precautions should be observed at all times when dealing with this substance.

In construction plant fitting, we come across dilted sulphuric acid in lead/acid batteries of the type used in plant vehicles. This acid is diluted but still very dangerous.

When working with batteries and sulphuric acid (the electrolyte used in batteries), you must always wear your safety glasses
