P

:

P codes have (incorrectly) come to be associated with Powertrain fault codes used in OBDII.

In reality, P codes are PIDs, or "Parameter IDs", which are codes used to request data from a vehicle.

As well as P codes, there are also B, C and U codes. These codes identify which control system set a particular fault:

  • B - Body
  • C - Chassis
  • P - Powertrain
  • U - Network Communication

With Powertrain Codes, P0, P2, P3, and U0 are generic codes and P1, P3, and U1 codes are manufacturer specific

:

This is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that tells us "misfire detected with low fuel"

  • The "P" tells us it is it is the powertrain control system that set the code.
  • The "0" tells us it is an ISO/SAE standard defined code (it is not manufacturer specific).
  • The "3" tells us it is an ignition or engine misfire problem.
  • The "1" and the "3" identify the component and a description of the fault.

This is a manufacturer specific P code, in this case, Ford. OBD system tests not completed. This can take 20-40 minutes of normal driving to complete. If it is not done, the fault cannot be cleared from the memory

:

Throttle valve position sensors 1/2 invalid ratio. On the Ford Fiesta engine used on the course, this will also trigger an 'EAC fail' flashing warning on the dashboard.

Lock and keysPadlock complete with (C/W) keys.

During the induction stage of phase 2, you will be issued (at your own expense) with a lock complete with keys. The lock is for your personal locker, which you will be using for the duration of Phase 2.

The security of this locker, and the security of your toolbox is entirely your own responsibility. If you loose or forget your keys, the lock can be cut using a bolt-cutter. Do not damage the locker by forcing it open. If at any stage during the course, you require a replacement lock and keys, we can provide one at your expense. You are, of course, free to supply your own lock and key.
